Advancing Technology
IQM Research Institute (IQMRI) conducts applied and theoretical research across scientific and engineering disciplines that directly contribute to U.S. corporate and defense interests.
Our research programs address high-consequence challenges where precision, reliability, and ethical innovation are essential.
We approach every initiative as a partnership—aligning technical excellence with mission objectives. From resilient materials to intelligent systems and embedded cybersecurity, our work reflects a commitment to innovation.
Centers and Collaborations
IQMRI moves innovation from concept to deployment through close collaboration with federal, industrial, and academic partners.
Our Center for Integrated Cognition (CIC) explores cognitive architectures, human-machine teaming, and the integration of artificial and biologically inspired intelligence models to improve adaptability and decision-making in demanding missions.
At Michigan’s Camp Grayling IQM validates advanced technologies vital to the warfighter.
Internal Research and Development (IRAD)
The IRAD program provides the backbone for IQMRI’s sustained innovation. It encourages exploratory work on emerging technologies that may not yet have a defined sponsor but hold significant promise for future defense applications. Projects advance through structured phases—Pathfinder, Shaping, and Core Competency—each stage increasing technical maturity and mission alignment.
IRAD outcomes frequently inform federally funded programs or lead to new proposals under SBIR/STTR mechanisms. This self-sustaining approach keeps IQMRI agile, proactive, and strategically aligned with national priorities.
Secure Facilities and Infrastructure
IQMRI’s research environment includes secure laboratories and controlled-access computing systems that comply with federal standards for data handling and information assurance. Our infrastructure supports work across a range of clearance levels, ensuring operational security.
The Institute’s digital architecture is built for confidentiality, version control, and audit readiness—foundational elements that enable collaboration with defense agencies and prime contractors
Commitment to Responsible Innovation
Ethical oversight and scientific accountability guide every IQMRI program. We maintain internal review protocols to ensure research integrity, compliance with export-control regulations, and adherence to federal ethical guidelines. Our researchers are trained to recognize and mitigate risk while preserving transparency and reproducibility.
